Back to Business

So what does LGM do? Well, that’s a good question. Here’s a small snapshot of the last few days.

First, our good friends over at Indian Creek Winery invited us over for a barrel tasting of a few of their upcoming releases. I am trying to recollect my mental tasting notes . . .

If I recall, the Pinot Noir had been in the barrel for about four months, so it was very young still, obviously, needing to be in the barrel for 12-18 months or so. Lots of fruit, no surprise, but all that effervescence of course since it is still so young. Pinot isn’t a grape that Idaho typically works with since we don’t have the conditions for it. The Indian Creek winery tells me though that the grapes come from areas in Idaho where there are microclimates, so they’ve been able to put together a pretty good Pinot for the last few years.

We also tried a Petit Verdot - yep - a real Petit Verdot. Usually, that grape is used in blends, red table wines. But Indian Creek went out on a limb and went ahead and made a PV, and I have to tell you, this thing is going to sell out for sure. Several people had already reserved cases for that wine based upon the tasting, and I don’t blame them. That wine had been in the barrel for few months longer than the Pinot, and it was already showing hints of maturity. It is going to be a big winner for the winery.

A Cabernet, and a Malbec rounded out our tastings. The Malbec also showed promise, and I am sure the Cab will turn out well, but it needed more barrel time before it would have that Cab taste. We’ve got lots of shots floating around out there, but here is one - a barrel full of 25 cases or so of delicious Malbec.

So that was Sunday afternoon.

Last night, we sat down with our old friend Nathan from Developer’s Studio to talk about some updates to the Pronetos site. We’re working on implmenting an OAI compliant repository, and the Open Journal System created by Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. I know, yawn. But you want to see true madness at work?

That is a 12′ whiteboard on the wall in the basement of the 307. If you can follow that, that is the technology integration plan, and the business plan (with even some UI design thrown in), for Pronetos V2.

See, entrepreneurship isn’t all fun and games, it’s pure madness.

The coolest part, the part that we can sell, is the pair of triangles in the lower right corner. That’s a good strategy to enter the market from top and bottom.

Stay tuned for the announcement of our first two legitimate!
