Past and Present

So while doing some research for my masters, which should FINALLY be done this semester, I came across a great photo of a Texas sharecropper, and it kind of reminded me of another photo I’ve seen around . . .

Sharecropper

Chris Blanchard in a Georgia cotton field

That sharecropper photo is part of the Farm Security Administration’s collection of photographs taken roughly between 1935 and 1945. The Library of Congress provides access to 160,000 of these photos at its American Memory site. Definitely worth checking out if you are into American History, or photography (or you just really want to know more about my Master’s Thesis). Don’t worry the defense is coming up soon, and everyone is invited.

I know. Yawn.
