Free legal advice from an historian
If you have a web based start-up or are doing anything on the web, you have to have to do some sort of protection of your intellectual property. I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself since there are more pitfalls in IP law than any mere mortal could ever surmount. LGM has always trusted Brad Frazer to do this work for us. BUT if you are looking to do something as simple as register yourself as the authorized agent of your website under the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, then you need to fill out the form available at this page. Don’t bother trying to find any reference to this on the government’s Copyright site - it doesn’t exist. Not a single thing in the FAQs, the instructions, and Google and Ask.com searches are futile. SO - if you need to do your DMCA registration (and you do), you at least now have the link to the form.
